Canucks Lose But Favored in 2012 Odds

Boston is the Stanley Cup winner, but they are the loser on one set of Stanley Cup odds.

Oddsmakers set the Canucks as 5/1 early favorites to win next season’s NHL championship, just hours after they lost on home ice to the Bruins in Game 7.

"It underscores that Vancouver has a younger team and probably would have won if not for so many injuries on their blueline," said Jack Randall, hockey handicapper at OddsShark.com.

"The Bruins won it with grit and determination, but the Bodog odds at 8/1 reflect that they will have a tough job getting back here in 2012."

Indeed the Bruins face a brutal East with Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, resurgent New Jersey, and the emerging Rangers.

If they get past them, it’s another tough battle in the West with perennial contenders Vancouver, San Jose, and Chicago and youthful Los Angeles also in the mix.

Where does your favorite fit in the 2012 Stanley Cup odds picture? In Florida, it’s a 125/1 longshot, the longest odds on the board.
