After their red hot start to the season it seemed like it was only a matter of time before the Dallas Stars would be anointed as Stanley Cup favorites. At Bodog that time has come.
The Stars currently sit alone atop the Bodog Stanley Cup odds at +750. Dallas leads the Western Conference with 28 points and also leads the league in scoring. It’s no wonder with Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and John Klingberg all in the Top 5 in scoring. In their last 10 games the Stars are 8-2 and they’ve been killer at home this season at 7-2.
The Stars’ ride to the top has also coincided with a slight drop on the odds list by the Montreal Canadiens. Montreal, the Stanley Cup favorite for the majority of the season so far, is currently lumped in with the New York Rangers at +800. Since their nine-game winning streak to start the season Montreal is 3-2-1 and they’ve lost their last two games.
The Rangers are up slightly from +900 a week ago. That should come as no surprise though, as New York is rolling right now and on a nine-game winning streak. That streak has pushed New York to the top of the Metropolitan division and they also have an NHL-best 30 points.
Following the Habs and Rangers on the Bodog odds is the Washington Capitals at +1000 and three teams, the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues, all at +1200. The Ducks looked like they were finally putting things together last week and then they went on to lose three in a row. That caused the oddsmakers to kick them from +1000 to +1200.
The Blackhawks remain at +1200 for the second straight week but that could soon change. Chicago has won their last two games and looks primed to go on a run on the shoulders of Patrick Kane. He has taken over the NHL scoring lead with 28 points thanks to a 13-game point streak. Chicago also welcomed back Norris Trophy defenseman Duncan Keith over the weekend, adding another weapon to an already scorching offense.
