Stanley Cup Odds: Canadiens get a bump on futures

The Montreal Canadiens added some depth to their roster prior to the NHL Trade Deadline, and the online sportsbooks have given them a small bump on the odds to win the 2015 Stanley Cup as we enter the stretch run of the 2014/15 campaign.

At Bodog the Canadiens have moved from 12/1 on the odds to win the Stanley Cup two weeks ago to 10/1 on the futures list a day after the Trade Deadline. Montreal acquired defenseman Jeff Petry from the Edmonton Oilers and depth forwards Torrey Mitchell and Brian Flynn from the Buffalo Sabres prior to the deadline.

The 10/1 Habs sit tied for fourth on the updated Stanley Cup betting lines at the sportsbook, with the Chicago Blackhawks the favorites at 15/2 despite the injury to leading scorer Patrick Kane last week. The Blackhawks added forward Antoine Vermette to help pick up some of the scoring slack with Kane out of the lineup.

The Nashville Predators and Anaheim Ducks are then both at 9/1 at Bodog on the odds to win the Stanley Cup, with Anaheim adding defenseman James Wisniewski prior to the deadline in a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Ducks also picked up forward Jiri Sekac from the Canadiens last week in exchange for forward Devante Smith-Pelly.

The St. Louis Blues are tied with Montreal at 10/1 on the Stanley Cup odds, with the defending-champion Los Angeles Kings at 12/1 on the list along with the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders, and New York Rangers. The Rangers made a move to help their blueline corps prior to the deadline, getting defenseman Keith Yandle from the Coyotes.

The Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, and Tampa Bay Lightning are all at 14/1 on the Stanley Cup futures at Bodog, with the Washington Capitals rounding out the top half of the contenders list at 18/1. The San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks are then both back at 25/1, with the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets at 33/1.
