Stanley Cup Odds: Flyers, Sharks slipping

The Philadelphia Flyers had Stanley Cup aspirations heading into the shortened 2013 NHL season, while the San Jose Sharks were red hot over the first few weeks of the year. Both of those teams, though, have been slipping on the odds to win the Stanley Cup.

The Flyers are now back at 40/1 on the odds to win the Stanley Cup at Bodog’s online sportsbook as they struggle to get into a playoff position in the Eastern Conference. The Sharks, who sat in the top tier of Stanley Cup odds last month, are now at 25/1 on that list after going cold and falling down the Western standings.

And sitting at the top of the odds to win the Stanley Cup are the Chicago Blackhawks, who have picked up the most points in the league so far this season behind a strong offsense and tight defense. The Hawks are the 9/2 Stanley Cup favorites at Bodog.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are next at 11/2 on those NHL futures at the sportsbook, followed by the Boston Bruins at 15/2, and the Anaheim Ducks at 10/1. The Ducks are currently second only to the Hawks in the Western standings, while the Penguins and Bruins are battling the Montreal Canadiens for top spot in the Eastern standings.

The Habs are tied with the Vancouver Canucks and the Los Angeles Kings at 14/1 on the odds to win the Stanley Cup, with the Kings rebounding from a slow start to the season and the Canucks sitting atop the Northwest Division standings. The St. Louis Blues round out the second tier of Stanley Cup contenders at 15/1 right now.

The New York Rangers are back at 20/1 on the odds to win the NHL title this season, while the Toronto Maple Leafs have fallen to 40/1. As for the other Canadian clubs on the list, the Ottawa Senators are at 45/1, with the Edmonton Oilers at 50/1, the Winnipeg Jets at 66/1, and the Calgary Flames at 75/1.
