Stanley Cup Odds: Trade Deadline to Shake up Lines?

The National Hockey League’s trade deadline day arrives on Monday, and depending who lands where it could mean a shuffle of the posted Stanley Cup odds at online sportsbook Bodog.

Some of the top names being tossed around as trade bait include Andrew Ladd, Mikkel Boedker, Jiri Hudler, Eric Staal, Scott Hartnell, and Jonathan Drouin. If any of those notable names find their way to playoff-bound teams the oddsmakers at Bodog could have to re-evaluate their NHL futures.

Before the trading frenzy begins a check in on the current odds still finds the Washington Capitals on top at +400. Washington just keeps rolling with an NHL-best 92 points. That’s 10 points better than any other team in the league despite the fact they have played three fewer games.

Trailing the Capitals on the futures are the Chicago Blackhawks at +500. The defending Cup champions may be in the market for an upgrade at the deadline after dropping to second place in the Central Division this week. Chicago gets to see what they’re really made of the day before the deadline when they host Washington this weekend.

Rising up the ranks on the odds list right now are the Anaheim Ducks. After a horrible start to the season the Ducks are flying high right now with five straight wins and an 8-1-1 record in their last 10. That success has forced the oddsmakers at Bodog to bump them up to +900 on the futures, which they share with the Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars.

Any bettors that made a future bet on a Canadian team to bring the Cup back to Canada can probably kiss their money good bye. The Canadian club closest to a playoff spot are the Ottawa Senators, who have climbed to four points back after four straight wins. The Senators are still a +6600 underdog to win the Cup, which is actually worse than the Montreal Canadiens at +5000.

The other Canadian teams are all bound for the draft lottery and should be sellers on deadline day. The Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames are big Cup underdogs at +15,000, while the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers have dropped to +50,000. The Maple Leafs won’t need to plan a Cup parade for many, many years and are down to +100,000.
