The Washington Capitals have company again at the top of the Stanley Cup odds list at online sportsbook Bodog. Last week the Caps held sole possession of top spot, but the Dallas Stars have caught them and the teams are now the co-favorites to win the Cup at +700.
The Capitals are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and have moved into first place in the Metropolitan division with 40 points. Washington is known for scorers Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, but goalie Braden Holtby may be their MVP so far with a 17-4-1 record, 1.95 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.
The Stars continue to lead the Central division and the league overall with 44 points. After combining for eight points against Carolina on Tuesday night Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin are tied for second in league scoring with 39 points.
Following the Caps and Stars on the Bodog NHL futures are three teams, the New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings, all at +900. That’s actually a drop from +750 for the Rangers, who have struggled a bit recently with only two wins in their last seven games.
The Blackhawks hold steady this week as Patrick Kane’s scoring streak continues. The Kings’ journey up the odds list continues as they sat at +1400 a week ago. The Kings have won five in a row and sit first in the Pacific division with 37 points.
The Canadian team getting the best odds at Bodog are the Montreal Canadiens at +1200. Montreal was the overall favorite early on this season and even though they still have the most points in the Eastern Conference the oddsmakers have knocked them down a few pegs, most likely due to the injury to Carey Price.
The only other Canadian team the oddsmakers are giving anything close to a legitimate shot at the Cup are the Ottawa Senators at +2800. The odds on the rest of Canada’s teams include Vancouver at +5000, Calgary at +7500 and Edmonton and Toronto at +20000.
