Stanley Cup Odds: Rangers enter playoffs as chalk

It’s the New York Rangers who enter this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs as the favorites, with five Canadian clubs falling in behind them on that NHL futures list at the online sportsbooks with the league’s postseason schedule getting underway on April 15.

At online sportsbook Bodog the Rangers are set as the 6/1 Stanley Cup odds favorites, putting them just ahead of four other teams that are holding down 8/1 odds – the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues.

The first Canadian club on the updated NHL futures list is then the Montreal Canadiens at 9/1 as they prepare to take on the Ottawa Senators (16/1) in their first-round playoff matchup. The Canadiens finished in first place in the Atlantic Division standings, while the Senators’ late-season surge pushed them into the first Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference.

The other all-Canadian matchup in the first round has the Vancouver Canucks taking on the Calgary Flames, with Vancouver at 16/1 and Calgary at 20/1 on the odds to win the Stanley Cup at Bodog. The Winnipeg Jets, who will face the Ducks in the first round, are the longshots on the list at 25/1.

Rounding out the updated Stanley Cup odds at Bodog are the Nashville Predators and the Tampa Bay Lightning at 12/1, the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins at 16/1, and the New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals at 18/1.

The Capitals and Islanders will meet in a first-round playoff matchup, as will the Red Wings and Lightning. The Penguins will be up against the top-seeded Rangers in the first round of the playoffs, with the Predators taking on the Blackhawks and the Blues facing off against the Wild.
